October 30, 1925, Glenn Falls, N.Y. - d. February 19, 2008, Reverhead, N.Y.) was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. He graduated from the Julliard School with a masters degree in 1953, and subsequently joined Charles Mingus's Jazz Composers Workshop. He became a producer for Columbia Records in 1957, remaining in that post until 1975 when he became president of the recording company Teo Productions. While producing for Columbia Records Macero worked with dozens of artists, including Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, Johnny Mathis, Count Basie, Dave Brubeck, Tony Bennett, Charlie Byrd, Maynard Ferguson, and Stan Getz. Especially prolific as a composer of jazz, he recorded several hundred of his original jazz works. Certain restrictions to use or copying of materials may apply. Gift; Vera Conniff; 2020. DLC Joseph Raymond Conniff (b. Nov. 6, 1916, Attleboro, Mass. - d. Oct. 12, 2002, Escondido, Calif.) was an American bandleader, composer, and arranger of music. He learned to play trombone from his father and studied music arrangement from the course book. In 1930s Conniff performed with several bands and smaller ensembles. He was serving in the Army during World War II, arranging music for the Armed Forces Radio Network. He wrote arrangements for Artie Shaw's band and recorded with them from 1941 to 1945. Conniff was hired by Mitch Miller at Columbia Records in 1954. There he wrote and recorded arrangements for singers that included Rosemarie Clooney, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Frankie Laine, and Marty Robbins. Conniff formed a group of singers and instrumentalists that performed his arrangements of light popular music; as the Ray Conniff Singers it achieved great popular success and toured Europe, Japan, Mexico, and the Soviet Union.
